Innovation and Sustainability Efforts

KNPACA is a pioneering society that combines the functionality of psychoanalysis and neuroscience to pioneer new areas of counseling, education, organization, and psychotherapy.

Psychoanalysis

Here are six prominent individuals whose work is highly influential or foundational to the field of Psychoanalysis and the broader integration of neuroscience and psychodynamics, including key proponents:

Sigmund Freud (1856–1939)

He was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst.

Carl Jung (1875–1961)

He was was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology, emphasizing the collective unconscious, archetypes, and individuation.

Anna Freud (1895–1982) was an Austrian-British psychoanalyst, the youngest child of Sigmund Freud, who became a pioneering figure in child psychoanalysis and ego psychology.

Melanie Klein (1882–1960)

She was an Austrian-British psychoanalyst known for her work in the psychoanalysis of young children and for developing object relations theory.

Anna Freud (1895–1982)

She was an Austrian-British psychoanalyst, the youngest child of Sigmund Freud, who became a pioneering figure in child psychoanalysis and ego psychology.

Jacques Lacan (1900–1981)

He was a French psychoanalyst and psychiatrist who reinterpreted Freud’s work through structural linguistics and philosophy, influencing post-structuralism.

Erik Erikson (1902–1994)

He was a German-American developmental psychologist and psychoanalyst known for his theory on psychosocial development of human beings.

Neuro-Psychoanalysis

It is a relatively specialized and evolving field. Here are six prominent individuals whose work is highly influential or foundational to the field of Neuro-Psychoanalysis and the broader integration of neuroscience and psychodynamics, including key proponents:

Eric Kandel (1929– )

He is an Austrian-American neuroscientist who won the Nobel Prize for his research on the molecular mechanisms of memory, providing foundational insights into learning and synaptic plasticity relevant to therapy.

Jaak Panksepp (1943–2017)

He was an Estonian-American neuroscientist and psychobiologist who founded affective neuroscience, identifying primary emotional systems in the brain that deeply influence psychodynamic understanding.

Allan Schore (1943– )

He is an American neuroscientist and psychoanalyst whose work focuses on the neurobiology of emotional development, attachment, and the regulation of the right brain, profoundly influencing attachment theory and psychotherapy.

Antonio Damasio (1944– )

He is a Portuguese-American neurologist and neuroscientist famous for his research on the neural basis of emotion, decision-making, and consciousness, emphasizing the role of feelings in rationality.

V.S. Ramachandran (1951– )

He is an Indian-American neuroscientist known for his groundbreaking work in behavioral neurology, including phantom limb pain and synesthesia, offering unique windows into brain function and perception.

Mark Solms (1961– )

He is a South African psychoanalyst and neuropsychologist, widely recognized for his leading role in establishing Neuropsychoanalysis and his work on the brain mechanisms of dreaming.

Various Resources

Neuro-Psychoanalysis offers a range of resources including academic journals, books, international societies, and educational programs to foster the integration of neuroscience and psychoanalysis.

KNPACA Network

  • Collaborate with your fellow analysts.
  • Introduce the project.
  • Experience NPA counseling.

KNPACA Newsleter

  • NPA’s world of thought-provoking.
  • Case Studies on the NPA
  • Access the NPA exclusively.

It is a relatively specialized and evolving field. While Mark Solms is widely recognized as a key figure and often credited with coining the term and founding the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society, it’s more of a collaborative and integrative movement rather than having a single “founder” in the same way Freud founded psychoanalysis. Jaak Panksepp is also a foundational figure in affective neuroscience, which heavily influences neuropsychoanalysis.
